MatrixSpace, a Massachusetts-based startup specializing in AI-powered radar, has raised $20 million in Series B funding to expand its portable counter-drone systems. The round, co-led by The Raptor Group and OTB Ventures, brings the company’s total funding to $58 million and marks a significant valuation jump since its 2023 raise. Defence contractor L3Harris also joined as a new strategic investor, strengthening MatrixSpace’s ties to the defence sector — a trend echoed in Europe’s growing counter-UAS ecosystem.
Unlike traditional radar systems that are bulky, costly, and power-intensive, MatrixSpace’s compact sensors combine radar and edge AI to detect, classify, and track small, fast-moving drones and other objects in real time, even in poor visibility. The system delivers continuous situational awareness for both military and civilian use, capable of protecting critical infrastructure or border perimeters from unmanned incursions.
CEO and co-founder Gregory Waters called the investment a milestone that “cements our leadership in portable counter-drone systems.” OTB Ventures’ Marcin Hejka said the company’s fusion of radar and AI “sets a new standard for edge sensing,” redefining how autonomous and defensive systems perceive their surroundings.
As drones become cheaper, faster, and harder to detect, MatrixSpace’s approach offers a low-cost, mobile solution for governments and private operators racing to strengthen airspace security. The new capital will fund production expansion, AI-model refinement, and global rollout, positioning the company at the forefront of next-generation radar for both defence and dual-use applications — aligning with the technological direction seen in Quantum Systems’ AI-driven UAS advancements.
