The Dutch Ministry of Defence is seeking to accelerate the growth of the Netherlands’ drone industry by changing its relationship with suppliers from transactional procurement to long-term partnering. Instead of predominantly buying completed systems, Defence intends to establish arrangements in which drones, software and other unmanned systems are continuously developed and improved over time, implying shorter iteration cycles and tighter integration between operational feedback and engineering updates.
This shift is presented as part of an updated Action Plan for the Security of Supply of Unmanned Systems (APOS). The stated objective is twofold: to build a robust Dutch ecosystem for drone technology and to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.
